Renal (Kidney) Cortical Cyst is one of Renal Cysts, which grows in renal
cortex. Cortex is the outer region of kidneys, where glomeruli are located
densely. Even if a small cyst may cause serious damage to the surrounding
glomeruli. Therefore, an early effective treatment is very important for the
patients with Renal Cortical Cyst.
What are the symptoms of renal cortical cysts?
- Large Mass. Large cortical cysts can show up as a palpable flank mass.
- Frequent urination. As kidney cyst may affect the renal tubule function, it
may cause frequent urination.
- Pain. Symptoms of a renal cortical cyst include pain in your back and
abdomen and along your side between your ribs and hip;
- Bloody or dark urine; it is also known as Hematuria.
- Fevers.
- High Blood Pressure. High Blood Pressure is another symptom of cortical
cyst, which tends to occur as cyst enlarges enough.
What are the treatments for renal cortical cyst?
Surgery: surgeries such as cyst puncture or laparoscopic decortication can
remove the large cyst and relieve discomforts in short time. But the
shortcomings are high recurrent rate. What is more, for small renal cortical
cyst, surgery can not be applied.
Herbal medicines: compared with surgeries, herbal medicines takes longer time
to shrink the renal cortical cysts. But the good points are lasting effects and
much reduced recurrence and risk. What is more, it can be used to treat small
renal cortical cysts.
Prognosis
Renal cysts are generally not harmful. Unless they cause extreme pain or are
an unusually large size and pressing against other organs or nerves, many
doctors take a "wait and see" approach to treatment. In most cases, the cyst
will disappear with no intervention. If the cyst grows, it may be biopsied to
rule out cancer, and removed. In most cases, cancer is not the cause of a renal
cyst.
